Building deeper understandings of Phenology by applying Science and Engineering Practices through Citizen Science contributions.
"The updated NYS Next Gen Science Standards Cross Cutting Concepts blended beautifully into the Citizen Science opportunities for MS and HS Life Science courses. Students collected data on local trees through Project BudBurst in an effort to contribute to phenology research. Students selected local conservation issues that were based in phenology and analyzed data through the lenses of the CrossCutting Concepts. To transfer learning, teams developed their research into infographics to share knowledge with a broader audience. In this session you will learn more about Citizen Science activities for all age groups, processes to analysing data with students, and developing infographics on PikToChart.
In cooperation with James Pier, RJ’ MS and HS Life Science instructor @ Red Jacket. "

I’ve heard about 3D printing, but what is it and HOW in the world do I use it in my classroom???
This session will take a quick look at how I brought 3D printing into an elementary school to build student engagement, leadership, and empowerment. We will discuss what 3D printing is, how it works, and how to engage students using it. Whether your district has 3D printers or not, whether your district has 1 or 10 printers, doesn’t matter. We will discuss the foundation of 3D printing, Design Thinking, and how you can start incorporating this into your classrooms and schools at any time. We will also discuss briefly the difference between printer styles, and price points. Getting started doesn’t need to break the budget.
